Mogadishu, (insidesomalia.org)-Yemen's ambassador to Somalia Ahmed Omar denied on Saturday what has been reported on attempting assassinating him in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Omar stated to saba, the official Yemeni News Agency, that the grenade attack that took place at a school in Mogadishu on Thursday was a result of disagreements between Somalis factions.

Some news reports mentioned on Thursday that Yemen's ambassador to Somalia has survived a grenade attack while attending a ceremony held by members of the Yemeni Diaspora in Mogadishu.

One person died and three others wounded on Thursday after unknown gunmen attacked a meeting of Yemeni community in Mogadishu.

A hand grenade was hurled at the meeting hall of a school at the Bulo Hubey neighborhood in Mogadishu Yemenis were electing a local leader in south Mogadishu.

Yemen in January 2007 became the first country to open an embassy in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Ongoing clashes in the capital left nearly 300 Somalis dead and hundreds more wounded last month, a local human rights group said Saturday.

Elman Human Rights said 292 people had been killed and another 325 wounded in Mogadishu in January. Civilians are frequently caught in the crossfire between government troops and their Ethiopian allies and Eritrean-backed Islamic insurgents.

"Those who are behind the human rights violations should be brought to justice," said Sudan Ali Ahmed, the organization's chairman.
